Built for the Andes

Made for
altitude.

Cold, dry, rocky country above 5,000 metres. A thick silver-gray coat, dark markings, and an extraordinary ringed tail help Jacobita move through the high Andes.

ASH GREY Silver-gray fur, dark spots and stripes, and a thick tail marked by broad black rings.
ROCK & WIND At 4–6 kg, it looks powerful but is roughly the size of a domestic cat.
THE HIGH ANDES Its range crosses Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru.

A secretive hunter

Hard to
find.

Solitary and elusive, Jacobita follows the rocky world of the mountain vizcacha. Approximately 2,177 mature individuals are thought to remain, fragmented across a vast range.

Mountain vizcacha makes up much of its diet, alongside small mammals, birds, reptiles, and insects.
Habitat degradation, mining, infrastructure, hunting, dogs, prey decline, and climate change threaten its survival.
Endangered on the IUCN Red List and protected by CITES Appendix I.

Sacred and protected

Keep the
mystery.

In Aymara and Quechua traditions, the Andean cat has been linked with abundance, livestock fertility, and successful harvests. Jacobita is a protected wild animal, not a pet.
